Vasco are monitoring rising European interest in 23-year-old left-back Cuiabano, who is on loan from Nottingham Forest until the end of the year. His strong start in Rio has prompted enquiries and forced the club to assess their next move.
O Globo reports that Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have made initial contact with Forest and Vasco to understand the player’s situation. German club scouts have recently attended Série A matches in Rio de Janeiro, with Cuiabano standing out among defenders aged up to 23.
Vasco are studying whether to exercise a 10 million euros option in his loan, an outlay viewed as high but justified by his potential. Triggering it would secure Cuiabano on a deal through December 2030.
The full-back has adapted quickly, is happy to be back in Rio, and has built excellent relationships with team-mates and staff.
He is not keen on a return to Forest after a difficult adaptation in England, although he still hopes for another European experience.
Under Renato Gaúcho, Cuiabano has become a key figure, delivering five direct goal involvements in four matches since the coach arrived. Members of the Seleção staff have watched recent Vasco fixtures to assess him, not for this year’s World Cup, but with the next cycle in mind.
