Vasco will face Paraguay’s Olimpia in the Copa Sudamericana last 16, with the ties scheduled for the weeks of 12 and 19 August.

According to PaponaColina, progression in the previous round earned US$ 500,000, about R$ 2.6 million, taking the club’s tournament revenue to R$ 6 million. The berth was secured with a 1-0 win over Independiente Medellín at São Januário.

The sides met twice in the group stage, the first game at São Januário ending 3-0 to Vasco. Puma Rodríguez, Nuno Moreira and Adson scored, and Adson stood out with two assists.

The return in Asunción, at Defensores del Chaco, swung the other way. Carlos Cuesta put Vasco ahead in first-half stoppage time, then João Vitor was sent off after the break. Olimpia rallied to win 3-1 through Mateo Gamarra, Hugo Sandoval and Sebastián Ferreira.

A quarter-final place carries US$ 700,000 in prize money, about R$ 3.6 million. Vasco now chase that reward and the chance to edge a finely balanced recent rivalry.
