Inter Milan are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Vicario joined Tottenham from Empoli in the summer of 2023 for an initial £17.2 million fee. He has featured in 117 games, keeping 29 clean sheets.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the 29-year-old is ready to leave Spurs this summer, with his representative holding talks with Inter.

He said on his YouTube channel: “Vicario is expected to leave Tottenham this summer regardless of what happens to the club at the end of the season.

“The feeling is already that he is ready to return to Italy. His representatives have held positive talks with Inter Milan.

“Vicario is open to joining Inter, with Yann Sommer either ready to leave or remain as back-up.

“Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has been in London for the past few weeks to open talks with Tottenham, but nothing has been agreed yet.”

Vicario is not an upgrade on Sommer

Vicario has struggled at Spurs this term, but Sommer has fared better at Inter, helping the their push for the Serie A title.

Sommer boasts a 58.6 save percentage in the Italian top-flight this season, higher than Vicario’s meagre 12.7 percent in the Premier League, despite facing more difficult shots.

Sommer has conceded 1.08 goals more than expected based on post-shot xG, which is still better than Vicario’s 5.22.

The Swiss has also completed 61% of his long passes and 88% of his short passes, better than Vicario’s 47% and 43% for both metrics.

Inter should consider better options than Vicario.

Arijanet Muric, who has done well for Sassuolo on loan from Ipswich Town, would be a good alternative to him.

Muric has two years left on his contract and could be tempted to joining Cristian Chivu’s side rather than sealing a permanent move to Sassuolo.
