Joan Laporta and Victor Font are the two presidential candidates for Barcelona’s upcoming election to be held later this month.
The former, as the most recent president of the club, is the favourite to resume office and continue his project with Deco and Hansi Flick.
Font, however, claims to bring more transparency and stability to the club and claims that there is more to Joan Laporta than meets the eye.
In fact, his arguments and backing from club legend Xavi Hernandez have improved his stock in recent days.
Speaking to the media earlier today, Victor Font urged club members to vote for a change in regime over the stability that Joan Laporta backs.
He began by openly calling for Lionel Messi to come out and speak the truth about his departure, hinting that Laporta was misinforming fans heavily.
“I think Messi won’t speak out between now and Sunday, but I hope he will,” he began.
“Explain the truth – about his departure from the club and his attempt to return to the entity in 2023 – so that the members will not vote deceived and with a smokescreen of the illusion that Hansi Flick and the young people generate for us,” he added.
He then highlighted the dangers of electing Laporta back into power and the financial consequences the club may suffer from.
“If we are not able to turn the page on Sunday, the ownership model is at risk. If we owe €2.5 billion and are not generating profits, the ownership is at risk.”

When asked to speak about his project and what he promises for Barcelona once elected to power, Font said,
“A project for the country that goes beyond the personal dream of becoming president, seeking to bring together talent, make members the benchmark, and professionalise the club’s management.”
“A model far from authoritarianism, committed to Catalonia and the rights of its members,” he added.
He then opened up on the recent debate he attended against Laporta and what he took away from that interaction.
“His personalistic attitude was clear, labelling anyone who asks for transparency as a bad Barcelona fan. If we look at how things are done, it is clear that there is no explanation of how they are managed.”
Finally, Font highlighted the importance of the upcoming election, not only for the immediate future but also for the long-term stability of Barcelona.
“Members must choose the Barça they want starting on Monday, March 16, and not just decide between candidates.”
“Two weeks ago, we were told that there was no contest, but the wave of change has arrived,” he added.
“It’s about turning the page on how football clubs are governed with this cult personality and presidentialism that endangers Barça,” Font concluded.
