Víctor Goikoetxea’s blue wave artwork fronts a Copa del Rey final special, capturing a sea of txuri-urdin supporters heading to Sevilla.

According to Diario Vasco, the Gipuzkoan artist has loaned the piece, made by tinting mirror polycarbonate with automotive paint to turn material into water in Real’s blue.

Rooted in Gipuzkoa’s industrial culture, he favours hands-on innovation over rigid theory. He shaped the mirror sheet with heat, added dark inks, then finished with car paint, exploring San Sebastián’s colours and movement.

Created in 2017, it now seems to anticipate thousands travelling south like an unstoppable tide, swells that gather and break together to push the team. He likens the rippling polymer to the surging crowd and the restless sea.

The Urretxu-born artist, whose work includes the Ondarreta pedestrian tunnel mural in San Sebastián, frames it as a modern, futuristic take on La Real’s vertical stripes, a bold image of the club.

He compares his materials to a starting XI, insisting every element must combine or the team fails, joking that when 4-4-2 does not work you try 4-3-3. A lifelong txuri-urdin, he will watch from Jávea while working on a large, ambitious new piece. He says Matarazzo will need to devise something to surprise, and that without creativity football would be dull.
