Chelsea are back in this game at Old Trafford, with the score now 2-1. It’s been an ugly, ugly game in the rain, but there’s at least some interest to the final ten minutes now.
Who else would help their team back into it? After a short corner taken to him out wide, Reece James rolled the ball out of his feet and looped a perfect cross into the box. Trevoh Chalobah was there waiting for it on the edge of the six yard box.
Chalobah timed his leap perfectly to rise above a cluster of defenders and get solid contact on the ball, which he directed into the corner of the net, showing superb technique on the header.
A superb goal after a game we’ve created almost nothing. This should make things more interesting for the final stages. We don’t understand why we didn’t start chucking long balls into the box a while ago.

We complained ahead of this game that Chelsea were struggling to create anything from open play. After a year in charge and billions spent, there’s no evidence of a really consistent attack developing with Enzo Maresca in charge.
This was Chelsea’s first effort on goal in the whole game. Now of course that is conditioned by the strange course the game has taken, but still it keeps up the pattern that the Blues can’t create anything that isn’t a piece of Cole Palmer magic or a set piece.
Serious work needs to be done to get this team functional when its star player isn’t there. This just isn’t good enough after billions spent.
