Enzo Fernandez has just scored for Argentina to give them a 2-0 lead over Brazil in South American World Cup qualifying.
The Chelsea man showed off his increasing talent for sniffing out chances by sneaking in at the far post at the perfect time to meet a deflected cross and double his country’s advantage. He’s becoming more of a goalscorer for club and country, it seems. He’s got 4 in the Premier League, as well as 1 in the Conference League this season.
You can tell what it means to him – scoring against the old enemy for your country is always huge, no matter the occasion.
He played well against Uruguay in their last game, and was praised by his national media for his showing:
“Like the entire team, he had a great second half. He searched for his goal, but above all, he took control of the game alongside Alexis [Mac Allister] and [Leandro] Paredes. Tireless,” they wrote.
It seems he’s doing similar work tonight, and he continues to look particularly good in international matches where there’s a lot of time and space for him to show off his quality.
You can see the goal in the clip embedded here:

Enzo then turned provider, clipping in an absolutely perfect cross cum pass from the right half space to meet Alexis Mac Allister’s run to make it 3-1.

Argentina, who had qualified before kick off as CONMEBOL group winners thanks to Bolivia’s draw with Uruguay, look a cut above everyone in South America, and will be a serious contender to retain their World Cup title from 2022.
Enzo, who really made his breakthrough at that tournament in Qatar, looks set to be a key part of that.
