Real Madrid are on course to end their disappointing season on a positive note, although their two-goal advantage has been cut in half by Athletic Club in the final match of the 2025-26 campaign.

The home side made a strong start at the Santiago Bernabeu, with club captain Dani Carvajal providing an assist for Gonzalo Garcia in his final Real Madrid appearance before leaving in the summer. And on 41 minutes, it would get even better as the second goal came in fine style for Los Blancos

Bellingham scores before Guruzeta response

Thiago Pitarch’s chipped through ball was met first-time by Jude Bellingham, whose crashing volley left Athletic goalkeeper Alex Padilla with no chance.

However, Real Madrid only had a two-goal lead for a few minutes as Athletic got a goal back courtesy of Gorka Guruzeta, who struck with a spectacular volley of his own to make it 2-1 in first half stoppage time.

It’s been a good watch in the first half, but Real Madrid will be disappointed to have conceded right before the interval. They’ll hope it doesn’t throw them off in their bid to secure victory for the final time this season.
