Chelsea held on for almost 20 minutes with ten men, but Brighton have struck back.

The Blues were reduced to ten men after Trevoh Chalobah brought down Diego Gomez as he closed in on goal. For a while it looked a good trade, as the home team were able to defend and even create a little on the counter.

However the Seagulls turned up the pressure, and when Malo Gusto came on, the tricky Yankuba Minteh started getting more joy than he had been getting up against Reece James. He broke away to the byline past the Frenchman who barely put in a challenge, and whipped in a perfect cross for Danny Welbeck, who was totally unmarked.

We’re not sure how that happened – but losing your central defender and playing a 19 year old and a left back in the middle of defence is always going to cause problems.

What odds Minteh is the next Brighton player we try to sign for big money? He certainly looks worth it.

Chelsea hope to just escape with a point as ten men hold on

We don’t expect much from Chelsea now. They were trying to hold on to 3 points, now they’re just looking to hold onto 1. With ten men, they can’t be expected to push forward much more.

This team continue to show a desperate lack of discipline, experience, professionalism, and at times belief. For all the quality that’s been added to the squad, there still feels like there’s a lack of any kind of heart to this team.

The current model of buying only potential and not older players is really showing its weakness now. We’re going to be trapped in this cycle forever.
