Villa continue winning run with comeback at Stamford Bridge | OneFootball

Aston Villa matched their all-time club record of wins after coming from behind to defeat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues enjoyed a dominant opening hour to the game and really should have put the game to bed long before Aston Villa staged a comeback.

The opening goal of the game came through a corner kick whipped in by Reece James that seemed to evade the entire Villa defence, taking a knick off João Pedro in the way that will see the Brazilian credited with the goal.

Villa survived a penalty shout early in the second period after Alejandro Garnacho's cross struck the arm of Ian Maatsen. VAR took a look at it but ultimately decided against directing Stuart Attwell to the monitor.

For a while, it seemed like Villa's winning run would end at the Bridge however a late turnaround saw the West Midlands side make it 11 wins in a row – equalling an 111-year-old record for consecutive victories.

The equaliser wasn't the prettiest of goals as substitute Ollie Watkins was able to bundle the ball past Robert Sánchez following Morgan Rodgers' pass.

Watkins got his second to put his side ahead in the 84th minute. Youri Tielemans' corner delivery headed home by Watkins to make it 2-1 and keep Unai Emery's side just behind the top two.
