Manchester United’s reaction to Vinicius Jr’s turbulent situation at the Bernabeu has been revealed as England’s elite circle around the Real Madrid superstar, according to a blockbuster report.
Vinicius, 25, has enjoyed a positive start to this season after a disappointing campaign last year under Carlo Ancelotti, as new manager Xabi Alonso has led Madrid to the summit of La Liga after 10 games.
But Alonso has chosen to build the team around Kylian Mbappe as the focal point up front, with Vinicius taking on a supportive role rather than leading the attack as he has before, despite being stationed in his favoured left-wing position.
In 13 games this season, the Brazil international has returned four goals and five assists. By comparison, Mbappe has 16 goals and 2 assists across the same period.
It’s evident therefore who the main man in the Spanish capital is this season – and this has led to rumours of discontent from the Brazilian, despite his public protestations at such.
But Vinicius’ latest outburst on the pitch could be set to remove him from the picture in Madrid completely in an explosive twist – one which has put England’s biggest clubs on red alert.
Los Blancos are currently five points clear of Barcelona after beating their bitter rivals 2-1 in El Clasico on the weekend. But when Vinicius was substituted in the second half, he reacted in an apoplectic manner, publicly chastising his manager’s decision and storming off down the tunnel.
It was an extraordinary display of unprofessionalism and has led to a wave of reports suggesting Madrid will look to sell the 25-year-old winger – with the Red Devils believed to be one potential landing spot.
The Sun reveals a “bidding war” could erupt amongst the Premier League’s biggest clubs with sources close to Vinicius suggesting the Brazilian “believes the fracture with Alonso is irreparable and that he may have to leave.”
The report states “Vinicius Junior has put Premier League giants on alert that he is open to a move from Real Madrid. South American ace Vinicius, 25, has had a major fall-out with new Bernabeu boss Xabi Alonso.
“Vinicius is accusing the former Liverpool midfielder of not treating him with enough respect. Their relationship plumbed new depths when the Brazilian was hauled off, against his will, with 20 minutes left of Madrid’s El Clasico win over Barcelona on Sunday.
“Vini Jr was left in visible disbelief, publicly questioning the decision and asking Alonso if he had made a mistake. As he walked off the pitch, he was caught by Spanish TV cameras questioning: ‘Me? Me? Gaffer, gaffer! Me?’
“Vinicius then stormed straight down the tunnel, appearing to yell: ‘It’s always me, I’m leaving the team. I’m leaving, I’d better leave.'”
Vinicius has since downplayed his actions on Sunday, revealing he did not mean to “offend” anyone. But there are few managers in world football who will accept a simple apology after such a public display of disrespect from their player, particularly at the elite level.
And with Madrid already having Rodrygo lined up on the left to replace Vincius, with Mbappe more than capable of leading the attack on his own, Los Blancos will undoubtedly be tempted to cash in on their prized asset.
The report states United view Vinicius’ signing as a “statement of intent” but that “all the Premier League’s ‘top six’ could be interested in Vinicius in the right circumstances.”
Whether INEOS would entertain an exorbitant move for a player with an attitude as poor as Vinicius is skilful is an entirely different proposition, however. There is also not an obvious home for the winger in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, particularly after the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in the summer.
United’s rulers have been trying to drive down costs while improving the morale and attitude of the Old Trafford dressing room over the past eighteen months – and a move for the Brazilian winger would shatter both ambitions, despite his incredible talents.
There is also set to be competition from virtually every major club in Europe, including domestic rivals, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, as The Sun reveals.
The suggestion that INEOS would choose to sanction a move for Vinicius is unlikely; the likelihood of United being able to afford him is even more remote; and the idea that the Brazilian himself would choose Old Trafford over more attractive destinations elsewhere is perhaps the least likely possibility of the three.
