Vitinha leads readers’ poll ahead of Florian Thauvin for Ligue 1 UNFP award | OneFootball

Vitinha has topped a readers’ poll for the UNFP Ligue 1 player of the season, finishing ahead of Florian Thauvin.

The winner will be announced on Monday evening at the Palais Brongniart in Paris. According to L'Équipe, more than 20,000 took part, with Vitinha on 39.12% and Thauvin receiving 33.93%.

Last year’s winner Ousmane Dembélé is among the nominees, but he has started only nine Ligue 1 matches this season and gathered 10.09% of the vote. He sits ahead of Marseille’s Mason Greenwood on 9.55% and his PSG team-mate Nuno Mendes on 7.31%.

With only five nominees for this award, many players have been left out. The poll suggests Rennes midfielder Estéban Lepaul merited inclusion, attracting 35.32% in that question.

In that question, 15,200 respondents put Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso on 25.62%, ahead of Strasbourg’s Joaquin Panichelli on 14.75%.
