Vitinha left no doubt about where he plans to play in the future.
The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder finished third in the Ballon d’Or rankings last year and played a pivotal role in PSG’s UEFA Champions League triumph. As one of the best midfielders in the game, it’s only natural that speculation about his future will make headlines.
In recent weeks, the rumor mill linked Vitinha with a move to Real Madrid as one of their top summer transfer targets. Given Real Madrid’s stature in the sport and the fact that Kylian Mbappé left PSG to join Los Blancos, it’s a rumor that has to be taken seriously.
However, in an interview with Canal 11 (via ESPN), Vitinha was asked about Real Madrid’s reported interest in signing him and made it clear where he will play football in the seasons to come.
“It would be foolish to leave. I don’t think it would be the best thing for me at the moment. I feel very good here at PSG. I love being here at PSG, and so does my family.
“We have a fantastic group and an incredible coach. I feel that people appreciate me a lot, and I feel that I have earned that affection.”
That is a definitive statement from the Portugal international. Vitinha understands that he can become a club legend at PSG, and once Marquinhos departs the club, he has a real opportunity to be named captain. With Luis Enrique at the helm at Luis Campos identifying talent, Vitinha knows PSG will always be competitive in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. But, what about the Saudi Pro League? Could Vitinha be tempted by higher wages? Not so much.
“I’m more committed to having a stable career. I already earn very well here in Europe, at a big club. Doubling or tripling that salary wouldn’t make me any happier.”
Vitinha may leave the club one day, but he is under contract until 2029, and I expect him to remain at PSG until then. He has come a long way since coming through the FC Porto youth ranks and going on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Vitinha has elevated his game at PSG and I don’t think he will want to leave any time soon.
