Palmeiras forward Vitor Roque has suffered a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle and will undergo surgery in the coming days, ruling him out.
He started against Jacuipense on Thursday 23 in the Copa do Brasil but departed after 15 minutes with renewed pain in the same ankle. According to Nosso Palestra, the club view the problem as similar to Piquerez’s, and while Palmeiras do not disclose recovery times, the current expectation is that any return would come after the World Cup.
The injury followed a strong challenge by Vicente Reis on the right flank. He signalled for a change, received on-field treatment and left on a stretcher, visibly frustrated, with Luighi sent on.
Palmeiras resumed work on Friday 24 at the Football Academy after a convincing 3-0 first-leg win over Jacuipense at Allianz Parque in the Copa do Brasil, and attention now turns to the league.
Preparations are under way for Red Bull Bragantino on Sunday 26 at 18:30 at Estádio Cícero de Souza Marques, in the 13th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
In rehabilitation, forward Paulinho trained partially with the group.
