Gustavo Silva fired into the side netting early on but it was Braga who took control, Gabri Martínez seeing two presentable chances blocked by Miguel Maga.
The Warriors took the lead in the 27th minute after Sikou Niakaté’s volley was blocked by Óscar Rivas, the ball falling perfectly for Fran Navarro who couldn't miss from close range.
Vitória only required four minutes to equalise. Telmo Arcanjo released Gustavo Silva who did well to hold the ball up and find Matija Mitrovic, the midfielder measuring a sweet strike into the top corner that took a touch off Lukas Hornicek’s fingertips.
Braga got back on top with Rodrigo Zalazar’s cross going begging and Niakaté heading Ricardo Horta’s corner off the bar.
Guimarães were given a glorious opportunity in added time after Gabri foolishly dragged Miguel Nogueira down inside the 18-yard box. Nélson Oliveira was given the chance from the spot, his penalty saved by Hornicek.
Both managers tried to turn the tide with substitutions but the second half never got going, Zalazar going close deep into added time when his shot was deflected wide by Rodrigo Abascal.
Matija Mitrovic was an easy choice for man of the match after his spectacular equaliser, the 20-year-old controlling midfield in his first start since moving to Guimarães from Serbian club Zeleznicar Pancevo.
