Walter misses Mirassol training, likely out of Grêmio cup tie | OneFootball

Mirassol goalkeeper Walter has not trained this week due to a left thigh trauma and is likely to miss Wednesday’s Copa do Brasil last 16 second leg at Grêmio in Porto Alegre.

According to Globo.com, the goalkeeper was assessed on Monday and did not work with the squad. On Tuesday he returned to the training centre for treatment only and again stayed off the pitch. He remains under medical evaluation.

The club have not disclosed the severity or a recovery timeline and will reassess him on the eve of the game. He is expected to travel with the squad to continue treatment, but has little chance of playing and is unlikely to be selected.

Walter was hurt on 40 minutes of the first half of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Grêmio after a collision with defender Wallace. He received around six minutes of treatment, attempted to continue, then was replaced by Alex Muralha.

If he is ruled out, Rafael Guanaes is expected to keep Muralha in the starting side. Muralha returned against Grêmio, coming on before the interval after recovering from a right calf oedema that kept him out against Remo.

This season Muralha has played only six matches and conceded six goals. Thomazella and Georgemy complete the goalkeeping options.

Mirassol travel on Tuesday afternoon for an early evening arrival in Porto Alegre. The tie is on Wednesday at 19:30 at the Arena do Grêmio, with the winners reaching the quarter-finals. If it finishes level again, penalties will decide.
