Franco Baresi turns 65 today, and despite last playing over two decades ago he is rightly considered one of the best of all time.
The Travagliato-born centre-back spent his entire 20-year career with Milan, serving as the club captain for 15 seasons. With the Rossoneri he won three UEFA Champions League titles, six Scudetti, four Supercoppa Italiana titles, two European Super Cups and two International Cups.
Now he is still at the club, as the honorary vice-president and an ambassador on the global stage. He often speaks about his memories with Milan, such as making his debut so young, working under Silvio Berlusconi and playing with so many superstars.
He also won the World Cup with Italy in 1982, cementing him in the hearts of a football-mad nation. Below is over 11 minutes of clips showing why Baresi was ‘The God of Defending’.
