Real Madrid and Olympique Marseille are locked in an engaging Champions League debut at the Santiago Bernabeu, with both sides scoring within the opening half hour. Los Blancos are back level after conceding their first goal from open play this season.

Olympique Marseille take shock lead

Marseille were the ones to open the scoring, after Arda Guler gave the ball away on halfway, with Mason Greenwood capitalising. The former Manchester United and Getafe forward drove at the defence and laid the ball right to the oncoming Timothy Weah, who made no mistake wiith his finish past Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid strike back immediately

It took just five minutes for Real Madrid to react though. Weah had forced a good save from Courtois moments after the goal, but Los Blancos reacted with venom. Rodrygo Goes, playing with verve, cut in from the left in the box, and was brought down by reckless leg from Geoffrey Kondgobia. While Geronimo Rulli guessed correctly for Kylian Mbappe’s penalty, the Frenchman’s finish was sufficiently in the corner to ensure it went in.
