Liverpool’s record signing Alexander Isak has finally trained with his new team-mates for the first time, stepping onto the pitches at the AXA Training Centre as preparations intensify for the weekend’s Premier League trip to Burnley.
The Swedish striker completed his £125 million transfer on Deadline Day, a deal that could rise to £130 million with add-ons, but was immediately called up for international duty. That delayed his integration at Liverpool, though the 25-year-old did get some minutes under his belt in Sweden’s 2-0 defeat to Kosovo earlier this week.
With Liverpool’s internationals gradually returning to Merseyside, Isak was among the first group back on Wednesday. The club’s cameras captured his arrival and first session, where he worked in the gym alongside Joe Gomez and Federico Chiesa before taking to the training pitches.
Liverpool are looking to make it four wins from four at the start of the campaign, and Isak will be hoping to feature when they visit newly-promoted Burnley on Sunday. Arne Slot is expected to provide a fitness update in his pre-match press conference later this week.
Key senior players including Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, Milos Kerkez and Mohamed Salah are expected back later in the week after representing their nations. Their return will give Slot a full squad to choose from as Liverpool look to maintain their perfect start.
For supporters, the sight of Isak in Liverpool red for the first time at Kirkby will be a moment to savour. The anticipation for his debut is building, and Turf Moor could be the perfect stage.
