Mikel Arteta was in a good mood after Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb, which has meant they are almost confirmed through to the next round.

On whether he knows if Arsenal are through, he said: “I know that we are in a really, really good position. A lot of things have to happen. So still, you know, we have to do our job, go to Girona, try to win the game, and then we’ll have much sense.”

The win for the Gunners has put them on 16 points after seven games. They will need a top eight finish to avoid a qualifying round into the next stage.

And with current eighth placed team Bayer Leverkusen on 13 points, as long as Arsenal can pick up a point in Spain, they should be through.

If they achieve automatic qualification, they will avoid a gruelling two-legged affair against potentially one of the best teams in Europe, such as Real Madrid, PSG or Manchester City.

And Arteta was aware of how important a break in the schedule could be. “If we earn the right to do that, that will be great. Because obviously it’s been a super busy schedule with a lot of demands and with things that happen, even more demands, especially on the players.

“So if we can achieve that it would be great.”

The Gunners can now turn their attention back to the Premier League, where they face Wolves away this weekend.
