Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller, Rasmus Christensen and Jonathan Burkardt with the reaction to the 2-2 draw at SC Freiburg.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Fundamentally I’m disappointed because we conceded two simple goals. We didn’t give much away in the second half but we should have pushed for a third goal because that would have put the game to bed. But instead we let in the equaliser. It’s obviously frustrating to concede a goal like that.”
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “It was an exciting and very hard-fought match without much goal-mouth action. We scored two goals out of very little. Freiburg did too. A draw was a fair result, even if it feels frustrating because we conceded the equaliser near the end. The way my team reacted after going behind early on was really good. That could have knocked us off course given our experiences in recent weeks, but we deservedly turned the game around. In the second half we didn’t manage to relieve the pressure on ourselves enough, we should have been calmer and more clinical up front in order to create chances for a third goal. Still, it felt like we didn’t let them have any chances either, except for that free-kick. [Vincenzo] Grifo is crafty and scored at the near post. We’ll take the draw and move on.”
Jonathan Burkardt: “We dropped two points, no question. It hurts when you let in an equaliser so late. We conceded twice from two individual errors pretty much, so it’s frustrating.”
Rasmus Kristensen: “It’s obviously frustrating to draw after conceding a goal so late. We controlled the game after the first 15 minutes, we didn’t give Freiburg many chances and we played well with the ball. It was a nice free-kick to equalise at the end, but it’s annoying. Mistakes [like the one for the opening goal] can always happen, be it in the first or the 90th minute. I stayed on the ground following the tackle with [Derry] Scherhant because he hit my knee full-on. Thankfully nothing serious happened.”
