Adi Hutter has said that his AS Monaco side “deserved” their draw against Manchester City on Wednesday night, secured thanks to a late Eric Dier penalty (2-2).

Monaco earned the first point of their UEFA Champions League campaign, coming from behind twice to salvage a draw against Manchester City, who remain unbeaten in their campaign. Hutter said that his side would have to “suffer a lot” against the Premier League side, and so it proved as they had around a third of the possession.

However, they nonetheless didn’t come away empty-handed, and post-match, Hutter spoke glowingly of his players. “Big, big praise for all of my players. Under the circumstances, missing six or seven players,” he began in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.

“I think that we deserved it. We never gave up. We left our heart on the pitch and this also makes us so proud,” he added.

Hutter says Monaco players ‘still behind [him]’

Amid some poor results and some poor performances at the start of the season, Hutter’s job security had been called into question. The draw against Manchester City dampens some of the criticism that has come his way in recent weeks.

“It is normal that, at a club like Monaco, to not be satisfied after three defeats, especially when there aren’t the performances either. I can understand some of the criticism, but on the other hand, I am convinced that the players are behind me and that they believe in themselves,” said Hutter.
