‘We played a very good game’ – Barcelona hero Rashford reacts after Newcastle double

FC Barcelona started their 2025-26 UEFA Champions League campaign with a win as they beat a difficult Newcastle United side at their home with a 1-2 scoreline.

Several Blaugrana players stood out with their performances in this game, but most of the glory went to Marcus Rashford, as he scored two beautiful goals to mark his return to his native England after his move to Spain last summer.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Englishman also talked to the media after the game, and expressed his happiness, both with the win and his own performance:

“I only saw the second goal, and it was definitely a great match in a tough stadium. We played a very good game. For the header goal, I attacked the space a little earlier because I found that gap in Newcastle’s box, and that’s where I went. I focused on heading it downwards. The header is harder for me.”

“I’ve scored a few more like the second one. I hope to keep scoring a few more. For the second goal, the technique was very good, but it’s something I’ve worked on my whole life. It’s more about having confidence, shooting, and daring when you’re in front of the goal. To score one of those again in a match is perfect.”

Rashford also ensured that his performances will improve as he continues to adapt to his new surroundings:

“We have a team with top players. It’s complicated to arrive in a new city, a new culture, but I’m enjoying it and I’m feeling more comfortable each time. As time goes by, I’ll improve my football.”
