Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side will be eager to perform when they face London City Lionesses at Goodison Park this evening.

The Toffees lost the opening game at their new home as they went down 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Everton have the chance to pick themselves up from that loss when they take on newly-promoted London City Lionesses this evening and manager Sørensen said that his side are feeling positive going into that match.

“We don’t know what we are facing with London City because they’ve been playing different systems in recent games,” Sørensen explained when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They’ve got so many good players that they can switch the team out.

“We’ve been talking about what we do, how we can look good and how we can be dangerous against them.

“We are really happy to be at our new home. We love it, we want to perform really well in-front of our fans.”

Everton and London City Lionesses have made many new additions over the summer and Sørensen believes that it will take time for both sides to get to their best.

He said “They have quality players, there’s no doubt about that but if you’re not clicking as a team 100-percent; you have to have good players and click very well if you want to compete.

“We are in the same boat. We’ve had nine new signings and we felt that we had to do that to build a new era with the team. We wanted to make the team younger so that we could grow the potential in the team. We know that it’ll take time to get that to click 100-percent.

“We are two games in and we’ve had one win and one loss. It’s where we thought it would be.”

London City Lionesses have suffered heavy defeats to Arsenal and Manchester United in their opening two games. Sørensen has been slightly surprised by the scorelines but says that The Pride could have had more to show for their efforts.

He said “Yeah, of course [I was a little surprised] but if you look at the quality they have available, they’re very good players. The scorelines were a little [surprising] but I don’t feel like they fully-reflected the games. If you watch them back, I feel like they created some good chances and they could have scored more goals.

“This is a very hard league and I know a lot of their players have played in it before but you still need time to gel as a team. That’s the journey they’re on right now which is a little similar to us.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against London City Lionesses kicks-off at 7.30pm this evening. Tickets will be available to purchase ahead of kick-off at Goodison Park.
