Real Sociedad are close to finalising a loan for 20-year-old Brazilian winger Wesley Gassova to offset Take Kubo’s injury absence. According to AS, he would arrive from Al-Nassr with an option to buy.
The option would be around €12 million. Al-Nassr paid close to €18 million in August 2024 to sign him from Corinthians.
The Brazil under-20 international has shared a dressing room with Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Félix and Sadio Mané. His signing would mark a shift from last summer’s preference for more experienced LaLiga profiles such as Duje Ćaleta-Car, Carlos Soler, Gonçalo Guedes and Yangel Herrera.
Zubieta has long backed emerging talent, with Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard and Kubo as examples. The club expect Wesley to make a quicker impact than recent buys in that bracket, after outlays of €13 million on Arsen Zakharyan and €10 million on Luka Sucic yet to deliver, and with Orri Óskarsson’s progress stalled by injuries after a €20 million move.
The task of shaping this prospect now falls to Pellegrino Matarazzo. After Imanol Alguacil’s tenure, the new coach must fit Wesley Ribeiro into a set-up needing directness, dribbling and goals following the loss of their Japanese talisman.
