West Bromwich Albion are exploring a move for Cameron Archer, but Southampton are holding out for more than the £5m figure previously floated.

According to Sainstmarching.com, there is a gap between the clubs’ valuations and a £5m proposal would not secure the striker.

Archer’s two-year stint at St Mary’s appears to be nearing an end, with the 24-year-old keen to leave and the Saints open to a sale. Signed for £15m in 2024 after promotion, he scored two goals in 35 Premier League games, then added three in the Championship last season.

West Brom’s interest is logical given Josh Maja’s departure, yet insiders suggest the Baggies would need to raise their offer. Southampton are mindful of their original £15m outlay and are unwilling to sanction a cut-price exit.

Despite five league goals across his past two campaigns, Archer’s Championship pedigree with Middlesbrough and Preston remains notable, with 18 goals in 40 matches and strong endorsements from former coaches.

West Brom may continue their pursuit, conscious that Archer could thrive at the Hawthorns if he clicks. There is a concern over budget after they were priced out of a £5m move for Danny Imray, and other Championship sides are understood to hold substantial interest should Albion not meet Southampton’s demands.
