FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on whether he would welcome Lee Carsley to The Hawthorns next season.

West Brom are continuing to tick off the games as they aim to secure Championship safety.

The Baggies have been excellent under James Morrison since he stepped into the interim role following Eric Ramsay’s departure, with his side looking so much better in all departments to give themselves a chance of second tier safety.

While their future isn’t secure just yet, the Albion hierarchy will understandably think the Baggies will go on their way to surviving under Morrison’s guidance, so plans will begin to take shape regarding how they approach next season.

The first big decision will have to be with the management and whether they hand Morrison the reins on a full-time basis given his positive impact on the team.

Or do the Black Country outfit look to someone else for more of a long-term plan? Only time will tell.

Someone who has been linked with the Albion post in recent times this term is Lee Carsley, who is currently the boss of England’s U21 outfit.

And it has recently been revealed that the Birmingham-born coach is open to going into club management after signing with a new agent.

It could help progress a move for Carsley to move to The Hawthorns and embark on getting a struggling Championship outfit back to competing for promotion into the Premier League.

With this in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has offered his thoughts over whether he would welcome the 52-year-old to B71 ahead of the 2026-27 term.

Lee Carsley backed for West Brom post despite club-level inexperience

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess believes Lee Carsley should be a candidate Albion have high on their shortlist and could be a success for the Baggies despite his inexperience at club level similar to that of Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay.

Callum told FLW: “I feel that for any Championship club, if Lee Carsley does decide to become a full-time club manager, they should be on red alert to try and get him.

“I quite enjoyed the football he played at senior level with England and, of course, he’s done a great job with the U21’s, which should give him some credentials through working with young players.

“But I think in Albion’s scenario, they may want someone with a bit more experience at club level. We’ve had Eric Ramsay, Ryan Mason and James Morrison, who’s now doing the best out of the three, but out of those, they’ve had very limited experiences as a full-time manager, but with Carsley, he might be worth making an exception to the rule.

“That’s just what I think might be a scenario in the summer where Albion fans might want someone who’s a bit more experienced after what went down with Mason and Ramsay.”

Lee Carsley could be the ideal project manager for West Brom

The first thing West Brom have to do is ensure survival before the hierarchy can make any massive choices ahead of next season, but if it is secured, then the first port of call will be to decide who will be leading the team forward.

It’s whether Shilen Patel and co opt for another project manager, but they may be more reluctant to do that after gambles on Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay failed to pay off.

James Morrison could well be the leading candidate for the role. Of course, he knows the club inside out and will feel he has a case after turning around what looked a rudderless playing squad.

But if they elect to move away from Morrison, then Carsley should be high up on the list. The England U21 boss would be able to steady the ship on what has largely been a chaotic campaign, while providing a brand of attractive football to The Hawthorns that Albion supporters have long craved.

Provided the player recruitment is right, appointing someone of Carsley’s ilk could see the club getting back to being towards the top end of the Championship table, with all connected hopeful that this rather ugly season will soon be a distant memory.
