Norway star Patrick Berg was part of their team in their 2-1 World Cup defeat to England, and his performances this summer have attracted considerable attention from English clubs.

It was an evening that ended in disappointment for Norway, with a 2-1 defeat after extra-time in their World Cup quarter-final against England, but they made a lot of friends during their run in this summer's World Cup, and one of their star performers could be on his way across the North Sea as a result of his performances in the tournament.

Patrick Berg has impressed throughout, and the Bodo/Glimt star has attracted a lot of attention from England as a result. It's now being reported that a host of clubs are interested in the defensive midfielder, with Championship clubs West Ham United and Burnley among them.

Teamtalk reports that a host of English clubs are interested in signing Patrick Berg following a successful season in the Champions League with Bodo/Glimt and his national team's successes at the World Cup finals this summer.

They confirm that two Championship clubs, West Ham United and Burnley, could be interested in signing the defensive midfielder, who's been capped 49 times by Norway.

But they will have serious opposition in the race for Berg's signature, with Teamtalk also confirming that at least three Premier League clubs - Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town, all three of whom were promoted from the Championship at the end of the 2025-26 season - are also interested in acquiring his services.

They also confirm that, while Bodo/Glimt would not want to lose Berg, the player himself is "prepared to explore the opportunities now available to him", with England the obvious next location in his own career development.

Patrick Berg has drawn a lot of attention throughout this summer's World Cup finals, but he's also been a key part of a Bodo/Glimt team that has stunned European football over the last two seasons.

He was part of the team which went all the way to the semi-finals of the Europa League in the 2024-25 season - the first Norwegian club to ever get that far in a European club competition - and his team shocked the entire continent in 2025-26 with a run in the Champions League which saw them beat Manchester City and Atletico Madrid in the group stage, before beating Inter over two legs and losing 5-3 on aggregate to Benfica in the round of 16.

Of course, the issue that both West Ham United and Burnley will face if they are to make a move for the defensive midfielder will be trying to persuade him to move to the Championship if Premier League clubs are also interested in him. Both have a case that can be made, though. West Ham's relegation from the top-flight was in itself a shock, while Burnley have a history of bouncing straight back following relegation. In either case, Berg's stay in the Championship could turn out to be a temporary one.

But the World Cup finals are a truly global stage, and quarter-final matches will be seen around the world. Berg has proved at both club and international level that he has what it takes to mix it with the very best, but this in itself may make persuading the player to move to the second tier in England something of a challenge.
