The experienced striker's immediate future remains uncertain after the Hammers' relegation

After their relegation to the Championship, plenty of upheaval is expected at West Ham United, both in terms of the playing staff at Nuno Espírito Santo's disposal and those within the hierarchy at the London Stadium.

The Hammers had spent the past 14 years as a Premier League side, the majority of which have come since their move to the 62,500-seater stadium in 2016.

Throughout said timeframe, many great players have represented the Hammers who, just three years ago, won the UEFA Conference League title in Prague.

However, a points total of 39 last term was the highest any side has been relegated with since 2011, and now a squad reshuffle is likely to occur following the opening of the summer transfer window.

It has been widely reported that, to help balance the financial books in East London after falling back into the EFL, West Ham, who are also the subject of major takeover talks involving current stakeholder, Daniel Křetínský, must generate in excess of £100m in player sales.

The trio of Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville and club captain, Jarrod Bowen have, as a result, been heavily linked with departures to the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Everton respectively.

However, another man whose immediate future is uncertain is Callum Wilson, who signed a one-year contract last August following the expiration of his prior deal with Newcastle United.

The 34-year-old's 10-month spell with West Ham has certainly been intriguing.

Wilson was signed in Graham Potter's second and final transfer window in charge of the club, making his debut on the opening day of the season against Sunderland before going on to feature 35 times in all competitions.

32 of those outings, albeit only 11 came from the starting lineup, were in the Premier League, where he netted seven times and was the club's joint-second-highest scorer alongside Taty Castellanos and the aforementioned Summerville.

However, in January, there was intense speculation that the Coventry-born man would see his contract mutually terminated ahead of schedule amid links to Ipswich Town, who returned to the Premier League and have appointed Gary O'Neil following Kieran McKenna's shock exit.

With the Hammers now residing in the Championship, it has been reported that contract talks have commenced between the two parties, while Wilson has also been linked with a sentimental return to his hometown club, Coventry City, as well as Hull City.

However, the East Anglian Daily Press have since claimed that the nine-time England international, who has also scored 95 goals in 271 top-flight games, is being monitored by the Tractor Boys alongside current Juventus and former Bristol City centre-back, Lloyd Kelly.

Callum Wilson could be forced into a sudden decision amid West Ham, Ipswich Town situation

As things stand, Wilson's contract at the London Stadium is set to expire at the beginning of next week, with the 2026/27 season officially commencing on July 1st.

Therefore, the forward could well be forced into a sudden decision over his future, and one which could have major implications on how the upcoming campaign pans out for West Ham and Ipswich.

Granted, Wilson only started in two of the Hammers' final 13 league games, but was still able to find the net twice, as well as having an equaliser against Arsenal somewhat controversially chalked off by VAR.

According to reports, all Hammers players who will be contracted for next season, aside from Bowen, are set to receive a 50% reduction in wages in the Championship, meaning that, based off ESTIMATED figures, the experienced forward could still be earning up to £31,250 per week as a non-guaranteed starter.

However, the fact West Ham have reportedly entered contract talks means that they could still value Wilson's vast experience, even at Championship level, where he helped fire AFC Bournemouth to the title 11 years ago.
