More fresh faces are expected to arrive at the London Stadium during the international break
Nuno Espirito Santo insists he is happy with his current backroom staff options at West Ham, despite expecting to have his own team in place before the end of the October international break.
Nuno worked alongside Mark Robson, Gerard Prenderville, Billy Lepine and Steve Potts in the dugout during the 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday night.
The four West Ham academy coaches stepped in to assist the Portuguese in his first game in charge, and he admitted they had been useful in helping him adapt to his surroundings during a hectic first week in the job.
“In this moment, I think the people that are here, the coaching staff of the academy, are being very helpful. They are the people that I really need now,” Nuno said when asked whether he would be looking to bring in his own backroom team.
“Especially to give me a deep knowledge about West Ham, how we are as a club. Who better to do that? I cannot thank them enough. It's been great for us.”
Nuno is expected to bring in his own backroom team, but said that for now, he had no concerns about leaning on the experience of the club’s academy coaches.
“For now, we are preparing like this and we are good,” he added.
There is no rush from the club or Nuno to bring anyone in to replace Graham Potter’s backroom team, who all left when the Englishman was sacked on Saturday morning.
However, conversations are ongoing with potential candidates, and the international break is seen as an ideal time to make appointments.
It’s been a frantic start to life for Nuno at West Ham, as he seeks to steer the club away from the relegation zone, and he says his full focus is on Saturday’s game against Arsenal, rather than what the future holds after signing a three-year deal at the club.
“I'm thinking only about tomorrow,” he said. “We have still one session to go. Talking about three years? I'm focused about tomorrow, how we can prepare a tough match.
“It's been hard work. I think everybody at the club is making a big effort to really help and create this knowledge, this bond. It's all about that.
“Everybody at the club is really committed to get things going, know each other better and helping and assisting what we need for the players, giving info, inputs about the players. It's been hard work.”
