West Ham are reportedly prepared to part ways with Lucas Paquetá this summer, a revelation first carried by the Daily Mail and now gaining serious traction. What makes this story even more compelling is the sudden drop in valuation. Once set at a firm £80 million, the club would now accept an offer “for less than half of that amount.” It is believed that “a bid in the region of £30m could be enough to secure his services in the current window.”
A transfer seemed improbable just weeks ago, with Paquetá’s name tangled in spot-fixing allegations. However, Sky Sports News has reported he “is set to be cleared with the ruling going predominantly his way.” This update transforms his marketability entirely, reinvigorating interest from clubs across Europe and South America.
Flamengo, Paquetá’s former club, are now among those monitoring the situation closely. While European clubs might circle cautiously, Flamengo’s interest hints at a sentimental return or perhaps a shrewd investment at a cut-price fee.

With West Ham seemingly softening their stance, suitors could seize on a unique window to land a player still in his prime. But does a reduced fee reflect financial urgency, a dip in form or simply external pressure from the looming charges? Either way, a £30 million deal for a player of Paquetá’s flair and pedigree feels like a high-reward roll of the dice.
As one source told Sky Sports News, “he is set to be cleared with the ruling going predominantly his way.” If that proves accurate, expect a flurry of activity before the window shuts.
As a West Ham supporter, there is a mixture of surprise and quiet optimism around this potential Paquetá deal. On the one hand, losing a player of his creativity and vision for just £30 million feels underwhelming. After all, he was once touted as our record signing, someone capable of unlocking defences with samba flair and tenacity in midfield.
But context matters. The spot-fixing situation has loomed large, casting a shadow over both the player and the club. If, as Sky Sports News report, the ruling is about to go “predominantly his way,” then maybe the timing is right for a clean break.
Let’s be honest, £80 million was always optimistic, and now with the case nearly resolved, there’s room for a reset. If Flamengo want him, let them pay properly. But if another Premier League side swoops in, we better have a plan in place. Replacing a Brazil international with flair and energy is no small task.
Still, if the deal funds multiple quality reinforcements, then perhaps the Paquetá chapter will close with a feeling of gratitude, not regret. He’s been entertaining, occasionally brilliant, but perhaps not irreplaceable.
