West Ham ‘submit’ FIFA complaint after Leeds United FA Cup absence | OneFootball

West Ham have reportedly lodged a complaint with FIFA over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s absence for the FA Cup quarter-final against Leeds United, The Athletic reports.

Leeds won 4-2 on penalties at the London Stadium after a 2-2 draw. They were two up entering added time, but a late West Ham double took it to extra time.

After a goalless extra period, Joel Piroe and Jarrod Bowen both missed in the shootout. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Brenden Aaronson, Willy Gnonto and Pascal Struijk converted, with Struijk’s finish off the post decisive after Lucas Perri denied Pablo Felipe.

Nuno Espirito Santo was without Wan-Bissaka for non-injury reasons, the right-back was in DR Congo celebrating World Cup qualification. He had played the full 90 minutes as his nation beat Jamaica in a World Cup play-off on Tuesday, then joined a celebratory parade with team-mates and president Felix Tshisekedi.

The report said West Ham did not authorise an extended stay and had booked a flight back to London. Wan-Bissaka did not board and was seen at an open-top bus parade in Kinshasa. It added that West Ham allege DR Congo did not allow his exit in time for the tie, and that FIFA and DR Congo had been contacted.

Wan-Bissaka has started 21 Premier League matches this season, including each of the last 10. Kyle Walker-Peters deputised on Sunday and scored in the shootout.

Leeds now face Chelsea in the semi-finals, their first last-four appearance for 39 years. The tie is set for the weekend of April 25/26, with the Bournemouth trip moved to Wednesday April 22 at 8pm on Sky Sports. Chelsea visit Brighton on Tuesday April 21, leaving them a 24-hour advantage.
