The reputed news outlet TalkSPORT recently published a report that increased talk about West Ham United’s transfer plans. The update says the East London club really wants to sign Coventry City striker Haji Wright. The Hammers need to find more attacking players during the January window.

This makes the 27-year-old American international a perfect fit for the attacking role they want to fill. Management at the London Stadium sees Wright as the right person to fix their thin front line.

Haji Wright transfer saga:

This interest follows the club’s decision to loan Niclas Fullkrug to AC Milan. It is a move that leaves Nuno Espirito Santo with Callum Wilson as his only senior striker. Naturally, this lack of depth makes finding a new goalscorer a top priority.

Wright has played well during the 2025/26 season so far. He has nine goals and two assists in 20 games for the Sky Blues. Since moving from Antalyaspor in August 2023, the Los Angeles native has earned a name as a clinical finisher. His form has caught the eye of several big clubs. Even though the Hammers have looked at other players like Josh Sargent or Jorgen Strand Larsen, Wright stays at the top of their list.

Still, West Ham will find it hard to get their man. Coventry City currently sit at the top of the Championship table. They want to make sure they get promoted to the Premier League automatically. This goal means the club will likely refuse to sell any of its best players in the middle of the season.

The report suggests the Sky Blues will turn down any bids for their star man in January. While the Hammers are serious about making a deal happen, Coventry’s refusal to talk might force them to look at other options. The West Midlands club cares more about winning the league than making a quick profit. For that reason, Wright will probably stay at the Coventry Building Society Arena until the summer.

Opinion: A vital but challenging pursuit for West Ham

West Ham United definitely needs another striker to help Callum Wilson. Wright has the strength and pace that the Premier League requires. His ability to play in different roles and his recent scoring record show he would be a smart signing for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team. However, Coventry’s firm stance makes a January move look unlikely.
