West Ham United’s struggle for attacking depth this season has echoed through much of the Premier League. Their rhythm often breaks down in the final third despite spells of control in matches. Nuno Espirito Santo watches his forwards labour without the directness he once relied on at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest. The club’s management sees that one spark could change their course. They believe the answer might lie just across London.
According to Fichajes, West Ham plan to make a move for Fulham winger Adama Traoré in the January window. The 29-year-old hasn’t decided yet whether he wants to leave Fulham, and the Cottagers haven’t made up their minds about letting him go mid-season.
Nuno shows interest because he coached Traoré at Wolves. He built a side that thrived on quick counterattacks and physical transitions. West Ham now rank among the league’s lowest scorers. Only Nottingham Forest and Wolves have scored fewer. Traoré’s pace and dribbling could add a sharp edge to their attack.
The club has already shown intent to reshape its frontline. We reported earlier that West Ham are targeting Joshua Zirkzee as Manchester United consider a January exit. The Hammers have also turned their attention to Brazil’s teenage sensation Endrick as part of their long-term plans. Nuno wants to add Traoré to this developing setup. He believes the winger can give the team the direct threat they currently lack.

Adama Traoré is still one of the most exciting players in English football. The 29-year-old’s speed tears open defensive lines. His strength helps him shrug off challenges with ease. As Fulham’s right winger, he often creates space where none exists. Yet, the Spaniard’s inconsistency still splits opinion. Many supporters see him as an impact substitute. He often troubles tired defenders late in matches instead of starting every game.
Nuno finds the idea of reuniting with a player who already understands his tactical setup appealing. His system relies on quick wingers who stretch play and push forward in fast transitions. Traoré’s traits fit that pattern perfectly, at least in theory, but his decision-making in the final third should still worry Nuno. That flaw has followed the winger for years. If Nuno guides Traoré to use his pace and strength more effectively, West Ham could finally find the finishing touch they’ve missed.
This move could reignite Traoré’s career or repeat familiar frustrations. The fit looks right, but the result will depend on how both adapt on the pitch. West Ham will be taking a gamble, but it might be one worth making.
