Tottenham are winless in four visits to the London Stadium, despite having won four successive outings there immediately beforehand. The Hammers last enjoyed a five-match undefeated streak at home to Spurs between 1997 and 2001.
Could Europa League glory salvage Tottenham Hotspur's season? On Thursday night, Spurs took a big step towards the final in Bilbao by beating Bodø/Glimt 3-1 in the first leg of their semi-final at home. Brennan Johnson broke the deadlock inside 37 seconds, James Maddison scrambled home a second and then Dominic Solanke cooly converted a spot-kick. The Norwegian champions did get one back late on, but Spurs still have a healthy advantage to take with them to the Arctic Circle.
Given that this league fixture falls in-between those two legs, it would be understandable if Ange Postecoglou's priorities lie elsewhere. Last Sunday, Tottenham suffered their 19th Premier League defeat of the season already, smashed 5-1 by Liverpool at Anfield, this third third straight defeat, losing six of their last eight.
Spurs have not lost more league matches than this in a single campaign for 90 years, relegated to the second division back then, and while that is not a possibility this time, those making the short journey to East London surely do so fearful of witnessing unwanted history.
West Ham United supporters meantime have endured an equally miserable campaign, underlining by the fact their side actually kick off one point and one place below their fierce rivals.
Last weekend, goals from Mohammed Kudus and then Tomáš Souček seemingly had the Hammers set for a commendable 2-1 victory at Brighton, only to concede in the 89th and then 93rd minutes, thereby leaving Sussex with nothing.
As a result, Graham Potter's team are now without a win in seven, claiming just three victories from 14 Premier League fixtures since he was appointed in January. Fair to say, the hammers support aren't particularly happy right now, but can their side claim a memorable, morale-boosting victory when a distracted Tottenham visit the London Stadium on Sunday?
Edson Álvarez, Crysencio Summerville and Michail Antonio remain sidelined, but Graham Potter does have plenty of options at his disposal, so will he be tempted to make changes? He chose to deploy Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen as fluid forwards at Brighton, but Niclas Füllkrug, who would offer more of a presence up front, could return.
West Ham United predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (5-2-2-1): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Todibo, Mavropanos, Emerson; Ward-Prowse, Souček, Paquetá; Kudus, Bowen
Jarrod Bowen has ten goals to his name this season, while he has previously netted twice against Spurs, both coming at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, so can he change that fact on Sunday?
Ange Postecoglou heavily rotated for last Sunday's hammering at Anfield, with Bodø/Glimt very much the priority, likely to do something similar here too. Djed Spence, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies, Archie Gray, Pape Matar Sarr and Mathys Tel are amongst those expected to come into the starting lineup.
However, Lucas Bergvall's season could be over, spotted on crutches donning a protective boot on his right ankle on Thursday, which is a blow. Neither James Maddison nor Dominic Solanke are likely to be risked after suffering knocks in mid-week, while Son Heung-min remains sidelined.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs West Ham United: (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Danso, Davies, Spence; Matar Sarr, Gray, Odobert, Kuluševski, Tel; Richarlison.
Fit again Dejan Kuluševski has started only once since suffering a foot injury in February, so can the Swede make an impact here, looking to rediscover his early-season form?
We are backing West Ham to win this London derby on Sunday, given that the Hammers will be desperate for victory, while Spurs' priorities lie elsewhere: West Ham United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
