Sheffield Wednesday are finally aiming to make some new additions to their fold in the final stages of the transfer window.

The Owls recently had transfer embargoes concerning money owed to both players and other clubs by way of transfer fees lifted, which meant that they finally had some freedom when recruiting players.

According to the Sheffield Star, Wednesday have immediately turned their sights to the Manchester United pair of Harry Amass and Toby Collyer, who are both available on loan this summer.

Despite their embargoes being lifted, the Steel City side aren’t fully in the clear. Any players they wish to bring in will have to be referred to the EFL Club Financial Reporting Unit for clearance.

Football League World’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, believes that the move would be a positive one for the Owls.

“One thing that Amass and Collyer do have,” stated Patrick. “Although they are both young players, is that they come from a good pedigree.

“If you are coming through the academy at Man United, there is obviously something about you and they both have started games for the club. So, I think a loan move for these two would give them a real chance to show what they can do. It'll be a very tough season for the players.

“I imagine they would get a good number of games, and they could really show in a tough division if they could stand up. I suppose there is a bit of a risk that comes with the deal as well. If they aren't too close to the Championship level, they will find it a bit too tough.

“But what do we have to lose? We have to remember with these fee restrictions that the number of players we could actually get in will be pre-limited. It's not a normal season.

“If these two young guys come in, we just need to get behind them and really see what they can do. It could end up being a much better signing than you would think.

“We did bring Charlie McNeill in last season as a young player, and it didn't work. But you can't judge these signings for these young guys. So hopefully they do come in and they really show what they can do this season.”

Henrik Pedersen’s side proved in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester City that they are determined to compete ferociously this season, motivated by the summer’s torment.

However, the Owls have lost a considerable amount of talent due to their financial woes, and that will begin to show as the season progresses.

Therefore, it is imperative that they manage to add sufficiently in the final stages of the window.

Bringing in two talented, determined and exciting young prospects from Manchester United will provide some positivity for supporters, which isn’t something that has happened often in recent times.
