An insight into the stance of former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcântara regarding a return to the club in a coaching role has on Monday evening been provided.

As much comes amid what have proven something of a whirlwind 24 hours for the Spaniard.

On Sunday, the bombshell news was forthcoming that Thiago, fresh off another difficult campaign in England with Liverpool, has come to the decision to hang up his boots.

Despite being just 33 years of age, the ex-Bayern Munich man has evidently concluded that it is simply no longer worth fighting against what his body has long been telling him.

And yet, if ensuing word to have surfaced in the hours since is anything to go by, Thiago may not be away from the game for too long…

As confirmed by numerous sources in the Spanish media across the day to date, Hansi Flick has made contact with the midfield maestro, over the possibility of joining his coaching staff at Barcelona.

The pair previously spent time working together during a shared spell at Bayern Munich.

Thiago, initially, is understood to have been apprehensive in his response to Flick, eager to take some time away from the game to recharge his batteries.

As per a report from Diario Sport, however, the situation now appears to have changed…

‘According to SPORT, Thiago’s arrival to the German coach’s staff is a very real possibility. The former player’s initial reluctance has changed and he is now closer to giving the coach the ‘yes, I do’, who in the last few hours has accelerated his attempt to convince him.’
