The Canaries parted way with Liam Manning at the beginning of November after a run of seven defeats in eight games and replaced the former Bristol City boss with Phillipe Clement, who arrives off the back of a mixed time in Scotland with Rangers.

And so far, the Belgian has been unable to galvanise the playing squad, with his side losing convincingly away at Birmingham City and failing to beat Oxford United at Carrow Road.

Meanwhile, over in South Wales, Swansea City added to the managerial casualty list when sacking Alan Sheehan. The Swans had been on a dismal run themselves, securing just one win in seven games and making their worst start to a Championship game since their relegation from the top-flight in 2018.

Taking his place is Portuguese boss Vitor Matos, who has no prior experience of managing in England and has been placed very much at the deep end to turn fortunes around at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans have suffered back-to-back defeats, going down 3-0 at Bristol City under interim boss Darren O'Dea before suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to inform Derby County in Matos' first game.

Both coaches have been unable to create a much-needed new manager bounce yet as they enter the enthralling realm of the Championship for the very first time in their careers, proving already the gambles the hierarchies have taken by appointing figures that are not yet familiar with the rough and tumble of this relentless division.

Meanwhile, Neil Warnock, who has managed more than 1,600 games in his career, has weighed in with his thoughts on the appointments Norwich and Swansea have made, and he isn’t holding back.

Speaking on Thursday’s TalkSPORT Breakfast show with Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist, (3hr 26mins) Neil Warnock blasted the decisions of Norwich City and Swansea City to appoint Phillippe Clement and Vitor Matos, believing they don’t possess the previous Championship experience to be successful.

When originally asked about the future of Arne Slot at Liverpool, Warnock replied: “When they start talking about changing managers, it does my head in.

“And who are they going to get? I look at the managers that they’ve appointed, you talk to me about Rangers Ally. Philly, when I went up to play against Rangers and Philly Clement was the manager, I’m not impressed, and he’s gone to Norwich.

“And I think some of these lads, like the Swansea lad, they don’t know what the Championship’s about, it makes me laugh when I see them all appointed, and it’s interesting because the Championship is unlike any other league in the world.”

Norwich City and Swansea City have taken almighty gambles with Phillipe Clement and Vitor Matos appointments

When Norwich City and Swansea City elected for a change of manager, many people connected with both clubs would have expected more experienced coaches to come in to galvanise the playing squad and get them pushing up the table.

But instead, both the Canaries and Swans have gone for unproven managers at this level, leaving many scratching their heads as to why both would try this given their precarious positions in the league.

The criticism has only grown louder too, given the way both sides have begun under Clement and Matos, with the duo unable to record their first victories in their posts and the sides seemingly not gaining any confidence from a change in the dugouts.

It goes to show that both of them will need time to find their feet in the division and understand the workings of it, with the Championship one of the toughest leagues to taste success in when results can be so unpredictable.

But can either of Norwich or Swansea afford to be patient when their second-tier statuses are on the line? Well, both hierarchies are certainly playing with fire with the decisions they’ve made.

Whether each club has success in the long-run and proves the doubters wrong remains to be seen, but so far, it seems like both outfits could have made damaging decisions by not appointing more proven figures at this level.
