After over four weeks of action, 48 teams have been whittled down to two
The 2026 World Cup final is just hours away, bringing the curtain down on the biggest tournament in football history.
After over four weeks of action, 48 teams have been whittled down to two as world champions Argentina look to retain their crown when taking on Spain.
La Roja have reached just their second World Cup final, and won the first back in 2010. Argentina have reached their third final in four tournaments and are now aiming to become the third nation to win back-to-back finals.
The game will kick-off at 8pm BST, which is 3pm local time in New Jersey.
Drones confirm the final above New York City
The World Cup final will be held at MetLife Stadium, home to the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets. It is one of the largest sporting venues in North America, with a capacity of more than 80,000 spectators.
FIFA have named the stadium the New York/New Jersey Stadium for the tournament to avoid sponsor names. Although the stadium is located in New Jersey, it sits just a few miles from New York City.
That remains the biggest question in world football. Reigning champions Argentina, European champions Spain, five-time winners Brazil, France and England are all expected to be among the favourites, although the expanded tournament could provide opportunities for surprise packages to challenge for football's greatest prize.
After more than a month of competition across three host nations, the 2026 World Cup will conclude on 19 July, when one nation is crowned world champions.
