Plymouth supporters have questioned Tom Cleverley's claim that they have improved in the past two games as their losing run continues.

Plymouth Argyle boss Tom Cleverley claims that he has seen signs of improvement recently despite losing six games in a row in all competitions - and it has not gone down well with the fanbase.

Argyle are enduring a torrid time at the moment, as a 1-0 reverse at Bristol Rovers in the Vertu Trophy this week continued their downturn in form - which includes four League One losses on the spin.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that Cleverley is coming in for fierce criticism from supporters, although the club are backing the ex-Watford chief, whilst they have added Derek Adams as Director of Football as they look to help the 36-year-old.

Tom Cleverley insists there are positives to take from Plymouth’s performances

Plymouth now have a break until their next game, when they face Port Vale on November 22nd, which gives Cleverley time to work with the bulk of his squad on a day-to-day basis.

It seems the boss has taken some positives from their recent showings as well, as he told Plymouth Live that the way they battled with ten men for virtually all the game against Bristol Rovers, and the second half against Huddersfield, offers some reason for optimism.

The players' confidence took a real hit, and it has taken a long time to come back. I saw 40 minutes on Saturday (Huddersfield) and 93 minutes (against Bristol Rovers) that proved to me it's coming back. The application was the main thing.”

As you would expect, those comments prompted a reaction from the fan base, and it’s fair to say that many disagreed with Cleverley’s assessment here, as they questioned where that optimism had come from…

Another fan also made it clear they didn't think Cleverley's comments were fair.

This fan explained that these comments are continuing to drive a wedge between the fans and the club.

It was also said that Cleverley should have been sacked earlier, but the club continue to show support for the under-fire boss.

Finally, one asked whether Cleverley was joking, such was his disbelief at the comments.

Tom Cleverley needs results to ease the Plymouth Argyle criticism

This is stating the obvious, but the reality is that whatever Cleverley says right now doesn't really matter, as it's all about results for Plymouth at the moment.

Clearly, losing six games in a row is unacceptable, and you can understand why the fans feel that a change in management needs to be made, but the club are sticking by Cleverley at the moment.

He knows this backing won't last forever, and the game against Port Vale looks like a massive one for the club.

To be fair to Cleverley, the team did at least show heart against Bristol Rovers, as the early red card put them on the back foot, but they showed some resilience, and it does offer a small glimmer of hope.

But, as outlined above, it's all about results now, and Plymouth need to start winning games otherwise the fans will continue to share their anger, as they are massively underachieving given the expectation that came with Cleverley's appointment.
