Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed when he will sit down with club officials to discuss his future at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola brushed aside talk of an exit at the end of the current season in a press conference on Friday afternoon, facing questions over his future in Manchester after David Ornstein of The Athletic reported this week that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca could replace the Catalan next summer.
City tied Guardiola down till the end of the 2026-27 season in November 2024, with 18 months remaining on the 54-year-old’s current deal as the Blues undergo a period of transition under director of football Hugo Viana, who revamped the first-team ranks after replacing Txiki Begiristain in the summer.
The Blues are in an embryonic stage of their rebuild under Viana and are expected to enter the January transfer market for further reinforcements to fuel their title charge, with Guardiola interested in signing Bournemouth and Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo, who will be available for £65 million next month.
A brace from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden’s seventh Premier League goal of the season helped City keep up the pressure on table toppers Arsenal last weekend, with Guardiola and co earning a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
City also registered their berth in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night after seeing off Brentford in a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium as Rayan Cherki opened the scoring with a brilliant effort from distance and Savinho also on the scoresheet.
Oscar Bobb went off injured for the hosts in midweek and will remain unavailable for City against West Ham on Saturday, with all of Jeremy Doku, John Stones, Rodri and Mateo Kovacic also out of contention for the Blues.
However, it has not been matters on the pitch but rather Guardiola’s future that has dominated headlines in recent days, with the Manchester City manager quizzed on Friday over when he will sit down with executives at the Etihad Stadium to discuss his contract situation amid doubts over his future beyond 2027.
Speaking in a press conference, Guardiola said: “There are no discussions. End of subject. There are no discussions. Yeah (they will come at some point), I will not be eternal here.
“But I said in my second season here, my third season, I would not be forever. Not any of us will be forever in this world. But there’s no discussions. What is going to happen is going to happen.
“Of course, the club must be prepared for everything; for the players, the CEOs, except the owners – they are here – unless they decide to sell the club. That is not, I think, going to happen. The rest, the club has to be prepared. But in that subject, it’s not on the table right now.”
Guardiola has swiftly brushed aside talk of parting ways with Manchester City next summer, with Maresca also committing his immediate future to Chelsea in a press conference on Friday to put the rumours to bed from west London.
