Chelsea face Manchester City this weekend in a WSL grudge match that could decide the title for the league leaders, but it has been a long time since City have beat the reigning champions.
Anything but a win for Chelsea on Sunday would see their chances of winning the league diminish drastically.
See below for the last 10 head to head meetings between Manchester City and Chelsea.
Despite being the WSL leaders, Manchester City come into this weekend’s game as the underdogs.
Chelsea are the only team City haven’t been favourites to beat this season in a dominant campaign.
But the head to head record between these teams speaks for itself and City have a tough test ahead of them on Sunday.
Chelsea have won all four of their last meetings against City – including two this season. The reigning champs came out on top in the WSL and knocked City out of the League Cup to advance to the final.
The Blues have also won seven of the last ten head to heads against the current league leaders.
City won this fixture in last season’s Champions League, but Chelsea still advanced after a rout in the second leg.
Despite the odds favouring Chelsea, winning is certainly no guarantee against their bitter rivals.
Apart from losing to Sonia Bompastor’s side at the start of the season City have been faultless in the WSL.
Since defeat to Chelsea in September, City have gone 11 from 11 in the WSL and they now have a nine point lead over the chasing pack.
Andree Jeglertz has led his team to a history-making campaign in which they have dropped points in just one league game.
A win this weekend could virtually end the title race. If the league leaders pick up another three points then they would open the gap to 12, which could be unassailable with just 11 games left to play.
On the other side of the coin, if Chelsea win they would close the gap to just six points and the title race would well and truly be on.
