FLW sees how ChatGPT believes Oxford United will fare in League One if Aaron Ramsey takes charge
Oxford United's decision to sack Matt Bloomfield seven weeks after the end of the season raised some eyebrows, and it was expected that a replacement was already in the pipeline ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
For the second season in a row, Bloomfield was unable to keep a side from succumbing to Championship relegation, having come in midway through the campaign. Unlike at Luton Town, though, he hasn't been allowed to begin next season at the Kassam Stadium.
Now the Yellows are searching for someone new after opting to relieve Bloomfield of his duties in a shock move, and it seems like they could be going down the route of offering a recently retired top-flight footballer the opportunity to make his name in management at their club - just as Luton themselves have done with current head coach Jack Wilshere
Indeed, former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has emerged as the favourite to succeed Bloomfield, according to the Oxford Mail. The 35-year-old announced his retirement from playing in April and is keen to take up management, having previously taken interim charge of Cardiff City for the Bluebirds' final three Championship matches as they suffered relegation in 2025, then still under playing contract in South Wales.
With former Premier League midfielders from a similar timeframe, Wilshere and Tom Cleverley, touted to be leading their clubs into promotion charges next season in League One at Luton and Plymouth Argyle, respectively, all eyes will be on whether Ramsey can do the same at the Kassam Stadium if he ends up being announced as the new head coach.

In the wake of the news surrounding Ramsey possibly being given his managerial breakthrough at Oxford, Football League World asked popular AI-based service, ChatGPT, where it feels the Yellows would finish in League One under the Welshman.
AI feels that Oxford would be a promotion contender, but did follow that up by stating that predicting a top-two finish would be "aggressive," due to Ramsey's inexperience in the dugout.
It states that the Yellows would finish 5th in the third tier if the former Arsenal midfielder were given the job, and a lot of that is down to how strong it feels the club will be compared to their third-tier peers rather than Ramsey's tactical nous.
With Oxford finishing higher than the two other relegated sides, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday, in the Championship last season, plain statistics would indicate they have the strongest squad in the division, and the finances that recently relegated clubs have do give them an advantage, too.
ChatGPT concludes by stating that, if Ramsey hits the ground running and proves to be a hit in the dugout, then the Yellows could finish third or fourth, but if the Welshman takes some time getting his feet under the table, his side could finish as low as 10th, missing the play-offs altogether.
Ultimately, AI has gone with something in the middle, and a fifth-placed finish would be a solid first season for Ramsey.

As seen with Cleverley and Wilshere at recently relegated sides, it can be difficult for young managers who are early in their careers to steady a ship and get them back challenging for promotion immediately.
Therefore, if Oxford were to finish in the top six under Ramsey, as AI are suggesting, then it would be seen as a wholly successful first campaign in the dugout for the Welshman.
Moreover, it would provide optimism ahead of his future in the dugout both at the Kassam Stadium and beyond, too.
Oxford fans do have a right to be sceptical when it comes to hiring someone who is massively inexperienced, especially to replace someone in Bloomfield who, despite the two relegations on his CV, oversaw mid-table records at both Luton and Oxford in the Championship, and arguably was a victim of the hectic summer at Kenilworth Road after consecutive relegations.
But, if Ramsey can establish himself as one of the top young head coaches in the EFL at the Kassam Stadium and engineer a play-off push in his first year in charge, it would be a risk that paid off.
