Chelsea are set to host Ajax at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night for what fans will hope ends up being another classic like we saw there a few years ago.
Back in 2019, these two played out an absolute thriller – a 4-4 draw in west London – in what was the old group stage of the competition.
Now reunited in the new-look league phase, Chelsea and Ajax will lock horns again in what should be a fascinating contest that fans of both sides won’t want to miss.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is spoilt for choice with a strong squad of players after yet another big summer of spending.
One of those, of course, is Jorrel Hato, who joined Chelsea from Ajax, and it will be interesting to see if the talented young Dutchman gets a game against his old side.
So far, Hato has not been first choice for the Blues, but Maresca has a lot of games coming up and a lot of rotation options (though Cole Palmer is a big loss through injury), so could we end up seeing something like this line up below?
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Hato, Chalobah, Adarabioyo; Caicedo, Fernandez, Buonanotte; Neto, Gittens, Pedro.
Ajax don’t quite have the superstar players of old, with clubs seeming to come in to snap them up earlier and earlier all the time, meaning players like Hato and Jurrien Timber don’t get that much time playing together and growing into more of a team.
Still, there are plenty of threats in this Ajax line up, with their team likely to look something like this…
Ajax predicted XI: Jaros; Gaaei, Wijndal, Baas, Itakura; Klaassen, Taylor, Regeer, Berghuis, Godts, Weghorst.

It’s not always easy getting Chelsea tickets, but fans are sure to be aware of their official page on their website here.
There are other avenues to explore, though, and we’d highly recommend you following our link here to ensure you get a good chance of making it to the Bridge without having to worry about the hassle and cost of club membership.
Ajax have a tickets page dedicated to their Champions League games, which you can find here.
Still, we would again highly recommend visiting our link here to find a smoother and more affordable way to this big game.
We already mentioned that crazy 4-4 draw between these two teams back in 2019, and it’s actually one of only two meetings these two big clubs have ever had.
Chelsea won their other group game in Amsterdam that season 1-0, with Michy Batshuayi firing in late on on that occasion.
So that’s one win for Chelsea and one draw so far – can the Blues continue that unbeaten record or will we see Ajax spring a surprise? Give us your predictions in the comments!
