Vancouver Whitecaps will take a two-goal advantage back to Miami in the Concacaf Champions Cup semi-final after a superb performance in front of a record-crowd at BC Place Thursday evening.
Scorers: White 24', Berhalter 85'
A record crowd was on hand in Vancouver for arguably the biggest game in Whitecaps history, and the hometown side did not disappoint in the opening half-hour.
After a pair of early chances went begging, Brian White popped up with another goal to add to his prolific catalogue this season.
Inter Miami responded well however, pinning the home side deep into their own half for long spells of the game.
Yet somehow, despite the star-power on the pitch for the Herons, the final pass seemed to be always be missing from Javier Mascherano's side.
But just when Miami thought they would be bringing a manageable deficit back to south Florida, Vancouver's relentless pressing paid off in the final 10 minutes when Sebastian Berhalter drove home the Whitecaps second on the night.
The late dagger will see Vancouver take a two-goal advantage to Miami for the second-leg, and most importantly Miami picked up no away goals in the process.
