Who did and did not impress for Chelsea as they thrash Morecambe in FA Cup | OneFootball

Chelsea hosted Morecambe at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the FA Cup, and ran out comfortable 5-0 winners.

Tosin and Joao Felix both scored twice in the game along with a goal from Christopher Nkunku after he had missed an early penalty on a comfortable afternoon for Enzo Maresca’s side.

The Blues boss opted to make ten changes for the game, handing opportunities to those who have had less game time in the Premier League. Reece James and Romeo Lavia also made their return from injuries.

Here’s who did and did not take their chance…

Impressed

Tosin Adarabioyo

The centre-half has had a mixed season so far for the Blues. He was not the favoured choice under Maresca at the start of the campaign but with Wesley Fofana out injured, he has broken into the starting 11 and has looked confident.

That confidence was seen today as he scored two long-range effort from outside of the box. He was aided by a huge deflection for the first, but the second was pure quality.

Aside from the goals, he led the defence very well today and looked like a possible long-term candidate to partner Levi Colwill with Fofana out.

Tyrique George

The 18-year-old has been limited to Europa Conference League (ECL) starts so far this season and today got his first taste of the FA Cup. He was very impressive and one of the stand-out men for Chelsea. He was constantly looking to take on his man, showing a mix of pace and skill, and looks like one to watch for the future.

He also linked up beautifully with Joao Felix throughout the game on the left-hand side of the pitch. That might be a duo that Maresca looks to deploy more often in the coming rounds of the FA Cup and the ECL.

As previously mentioned, especially in the first-half, his link-up with George was sublime. Felix was oozing confidence today against a lesser opponent, and it showed.

He scored his first, an effort that rolled just inside the post with pinpoint precision. But his second was truly world-class. He feinted in and out, and from the edge of the box curled in a shot that two goalkeepers wouldn’t have saved.

While Chelsea might have been playing an inferior opponent, this will do Felix’s confidence no harm at all.

Did not impress

Despite getting on the scoresheet, it was not the best day for the Frenchman. He missed a penalty in the 17th minute, a sign of his low confidence, and struggled to get into the game after that, not for the first time this season.

His role in the team is still unknown, and he does not look comfortable in this side at the moment. Rumours of a transfer away continue to grow, and it might be a compromise that suits all parties at this stage.

Marc Guiu

The Spaniard has had a handful of minutes this season and at times looked very isolated up top when he has led the line. Chelsea played well today and the attack was free flowing, but he just could not get involved.

His profile is very unique, and without the pace or technical ability of some of his teammates, he can at times look lost in this Chelsea team. He is still young though and has shown promise in other games.
