Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is the newest member of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad to make a start for Pep Guardiola’s senior squad.

He will play from the beginning in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Portuguese champions Sporting CP, just one day after his 19th birthday.

The centre-back is a calm, graceful and towering defender who has been at City since he was eight years old and has perfected his craft since his first training session a decade ago.

Simpson-Pusey fits the City mould. The teenager can showcase his strength when defending but also has a sharp eye for initiating attacks with clinical forward passing.

After signing his scholarship in July 2022, Simpson-Pusey has seen back-to-back progressions in the past two seasons, seeing him go from the Under-18s to the EDS squad where he will spend another season under Ben Wilkinson’s leadership.

The defender’s most memorable moments in Blue include captaining City’s Under-18s to FA Youth Cup glory following a 4-0 win over Leeds before being included in Guardiola’s pre-season squad that travelled to the States in the summer.

He went on the feature in our first two games against Celtic and AC Milan in what was an impressive showing by the young defender in front of thousands of fans.

His senior debut came just six days ago as a second-half substitute in the Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur

But perhaps making the XI for this Champions League clash with Sporting CP now tops the list of key moments for him in his City journey.
