Julian Nagelsmann’s 26-man Germany squad, named on 19 March for friendlies against Ghana and Switzerland, left contenders out. According to BuLi News, these were among the most prominent omissions.

Said El Mala, 19, has 10 Bundesliga goals and four assists for Köln, and only Deniz Undav has more among Germans. He was called up last autumn then returned to the under-21s, and has since started five of Köln’s last seven. Chelsea and Brighton have shown interest, with Brighton seeing multiple bids rejected.

Maximilian Beier has surged since December for BVB with 10 goal contributions from matchday 15, and was in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad. A slow start to this campaign may have weakened his case. Karim Adeyemi also missed out after limited starts, cameos against Köln and 20 minutes apiece versus Atalanta, though he did score when starting against Augsburg before a half-time withdrawal in next match after a booking.

Maximilian Mittelstädt started at Euro 2024, before David Raum took over in the knockouts, and the Leipzig man has often been preferred since, including a 6-0 win over Slovakia. Stuttgart’s resurgence to a Champions League place has featured Mittelstädt, number seven, with 25 appearances this season.

Yann Bisseck has just one Germany cap despite being regarded as a major defensive prospect abroad. Inter’s 2-5 loss to Bodo/Glimt, including conceding two at home, may linger, yet the Serie A leaders have shipped only 24 goals and Bisseck has made 19 league outings, which may still be a risk.
