Atlético de Madrid now celebrate their trophies at Neptuno, a move made as Cibeles came to symbolise Real Madrid’s festivities.

According to AS, Atlético supporters were the first to head to Cibeles, gathering there after the 1961-62 Cup Winners’ Cup triumph.

In the 1970s and 1980s Real Madrid fans adopted the habit, and both clubs marked titles at the fountain.

As the Quinta del Buitre won several league championships, Cibeles became part of Real Madrid’s identity, so in 1991 Atlético shifted their Copa del Rey celebrations to Neptuno. The tradition has held since.

Neptuno remains the meeting point for Atlético fans to hail new honours. Neptuno awaits Atlético.
