Bournemouth had reportedly attempted to sign Lazio striker Taty Castellanos in the summer but the Italian capital side resisted the tempting bid after some internal deliberation.

The Biancocelesti signed the 26-year-old in the summer of 2023, securing an agreement with New York City FC worth €15 million. The Argentine initially struggled for playing time with Maurizio Sarri favoring the tried-and-trusted Ciro Immobile, but eventually became a regular starter following Igor Tudor’s appointment in March.

This season, Castellanos has become a cornerstone in Marco Baroni’s tactical system. He has thus far contributed with five goals and three assists in eight appearances between the Serie A and the Europa League.

Lazio Decided to Keep Castellanos Despite Tempting Bournemouth Offer

But according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the club had the chance to bank in on the player and register a swift capital gain, as Bournemouth came forward with an offer worth £38 million last summer. After receiving the offer, Lazio president Claudio Lotito held a meeting with his sporting director Angelo Fabiani and head coach Baroni.

In the aftermath, the hierarchy and the manager agreed that Castellanos has a major role to play at the club this season, so they decided to resist financial temptation and maintain a firm grip on the Argentina international. Hence, the Cherries then resorted to Evanilson, splashing circa €40 million to secure the Brazilian’s services from Porto.
